no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22). However, we cannot be certain that a sin offering was involved here. The Hebrew word rendered offering here is the same one used in verse 5, and is also used to describe the grain offering in Leviticus 2. More likely the heart of the offerer was the key factor distinguishing the two offerings. An offering can be made according to exact specifications and yet be accompanied by an evil heart. The New Testament contrasts Cain and Abel with regard to their righteousness.
